Insurance & Bonding

I carry pet sitter insurance for my clients’ peace of mind. Without it, you would ultimately be held responsible if your pets injure someone while they are in the care of a non-insured pet sitter. You would also have to rely on your own home owner’s insurance to cover theft or injury on your property.

Hiring someone who does not carry pet sitter insurance leaves you without legal recourse if your property is damaged, your pet is injured, or another person or pet is injured. My pet sitting insurance protects you in each of these situations.

Pet sitter Insurance provides protection for clients’ homes and pets and covers expenses if a sitter has an accident that results in damage to client property or injury to pets. Insurance also covers other negligence claims like fire damage or pets causing injuries to others.

Bonding covers acts of theft. It is different from insurance because it requires that someone is actually convicted of the crime before the bonding company would make payment to the victim. If a pet sitter was convicted, the bonding company would reimburse the client for their loss and then it would seek reimbursement from the sitter. This process can take years.

Like many of my colleagues, I don’t want my clients to have to deal with bonds, so instead I carry a separate theft insurance policy. This theft insurance coverage does not require convictions and it usually includes coverage for mysterious disappearance of property as well as accidental breakage or damage to items in clients’ homes.

I carry pet sitter insurance through Pet Sitters Associates, LLC. (Feel free to ask me to provide proof of coverage.) I have never filed a claim against my pet sitter insurance policies. I take my responsibility very seriously and operate my business with integrity and professionalism while at the same time enjoying my time with your pets.
